First Photos of Downtown Vancouver
In November 2004, I made my third trip to Vancouver in the past four months but this was the first time I made an effort to take some photos of the city. I was trying to capture the essence of Vancouver so I could explain to my friends how living in Vancouver is different from living in Toronto. Although life out West feels different from life in Southern Ontario, Vancouver still feels very much like a Canadian city.
One of the first things I noticed about Vancouver was the abundance of condos, especially along the downtown waterfront. Vancouver’s architecture is also very modern as compared to Toronto, and being surrounded by water, mountains, and trees gives the city a very breezy and relaxed atmosphere. It was raining a lot while I was there, but I didn’t capture that aspect of Vancouver life because I had no desire to get my camera wet.
I took most of these photos while walking around the modestly sized downtown core. While there are areas of Vancouver that are even more scenic, like Stanley Park and the ferry to Victoria Island, those opportunities will have to wait for my next trip to Vancouver.
